This fabulous antique Victorian large theatrical suffragette cross pendant is Circa 1900.
Suffragettes liked to be depicted as feminine, their jewellery popularly consisted of Violet Green and White colours which were chosen to counter the stereotypes put forward by opponents that they were mannish or shrieking!
Pieces such as this were known to be used in Suffragette theatre in which a predominantly or all female cast performed in order to reveal issues behind the suffrage movement to a wider audience.
The wonderful large pendant is adorned with beautiful Paste Stones in emerald green, rich pink and sparkling white.
Green is for Give, white is for Women and violet is for Votes.
Paste is a transparent flint glass that simulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones. White Pastes sparkle just like Diamonds, captivating the allure of natures beauty.
The pendant is set in Base Metal and displays beautiful workmanship of it’s time.
This is a highly collectable piece of history that would look stunning displayed on a Gold chain.
